Mommy and Me ~ Through movement we will the discover space, time (rhythm), body orientation and gravity. In this Creative movement class we will use props such as scarves, bean bags and various age-appropriate musical instruments like bells, shakers and drums to help children develop motor coordination and awareness of space and rythem. With the help of lively music we will explore different movements such as jumping, rolling, balancing, hopping, skipping and galloping. Pre Ballet/Jazz ~ A class for the very young dancer. Introduces ballet positions, barre, stretches, jazz isolations and fundamentals. This class is great for having fun, making friends and developing motor skills. Ballet requirements for specific levels are listed below: All students attending ballet classes level one and above must wear to class a solid-color leotard (any style), pink ballet tights, pink leather ballet shoes (not the satin shoes at Target and Wal-Mart), and thier hair in a bun. Boys attending ballet classes level one and up are required to wear white shirts and black fitted pants or leggings. Boys need to wear black or white leather ballet shoes. Ballet 1 or 2 students are required to attend thier weekly ballet class, and are encouraged to attend the weekly conditioning class to better thier technique, build strength and advance faster. Ballet 3 students are required to attend thier weekly ballet class, plus one additional class from the following options: technique, pre-pointe, or conditioning. Please see Samantha or thier instructor for recommendations on which class to take. Ballet 4/5 students are required to attend thier two weeky classes, in addtion to pre-pointe and conditioning. Technique class is still recommended for all students to attend. *It is recommended that all students level 3 and above have Ballet Dictionaries for reference, and hip-alignment belts.* Modern/Lyrical ~ Both are graduated forms of ballet and jazz for teens through adults. Dancers will learn how to move the music through rhythm and emotional expression. Wear comfortable clothes you can move in, and either barefeet or lyrical footies. Acrobatics ~ The acrobatics class is geared for students from Kindergarten and up with mild dance or gymnastics experience. In this class students will focus on strengthening and stretching through various floor stretches and mat exercises. This includes handstands, cartwheels, forward and backward rolls, with progressions once skills are mastered. This class also works hand eye coordination through the use of various apparatus including working with hoops and balls. Students will use these items in conjunction with body rolls, small tosses, and used with mat exercises. Musical Theatre Class Descriptions Acting 1- this class will focus on acting games and exercises, learning to work as an ensemble and exploring character through pantomime and spoken word. Scene memorization outside of class will be required. Musical Theatre- Students will train in voice, dance, and acting. Instruction will cover vocal technique, improvisation, theatre games, staging/blocking, character development, scene study, and dance for theatre. Broadway Jazz or Tap- Students will focus on these styles of dance as they pertain to the Broadway stage. Using a wide variety of Broadway music, students will work with a wide range of styles and movement. Broadway Babies- This is our introductory class for younger students to explore combining dance and song together. Students will be on thier feet in this exciting class! Auditioning for Musical Theatre- In this class, students will learn how to prepare for auditions through challenging combinations, coaching, monologues, creating resumes, and how to present themselves with confidence. Mock auditions will be held throughout this course.
